Cooley Dickinson Announces 2017 Health Care Scholarships, Welcomes Applicants
The Cooley Dickinson Development Office is now accepting applications for one laboratory and four nursing scholarships, which are made possible through the generosity of donors who wish to encourage excellence in health care. Please visit the scholarship webpage to learn more and download application forms.  Additional scholarship information follows:

Donald “Skip” Jandzinski Memorial Scholarship (Award: $500)
The “Donald ‘Skip’ Jandzinski Memorial Scholarship Fund” was created in 2009, by Mary Jandzinski, as a tribute to Skip and his deeply held belief in the importance of professional development and giving back to others.  In recognition of his many years of service to the hospital, this scholarship is directed to part- and full-time employees working in the Laboratory department who are currently completing or registered to complete college-credit course work at an educational institution in the surrounding area toward advancement of their professional education in the medical field.  Financial awards may be used for tuition, fees, required books, materials, or school transportation.

Therese Connor Nursing Education Fund (Award: $400)
Financial assistance is available on an annual basis to registered nurses at Cooley Dickinson through this fund, named in memory of Therese Connor, a nurse who worked at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for many years. The nursing professional must currently be

  • certified in the Oncology area to renew his/her certification (first preference), or to continue further education in the Oncology area.
  • beginning, engaged in, or completing course work for certification in Oncology.

In the absence of qualified individuals described above, nursing professionals seeking certification in another specialty area or renewal of existing certification would qualify.

Louise Finn Nursing Scholarship (Award: $500)
This scholarship is named in recognition of Louise Finn, a maternal and infant care nurse at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for more than 54 years.  The Louise Finn Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to a child of a current Cooley Dickinson Health Care employee who is pursuing a career in nursing and is either currently accepted or enrolled in an accredited school of nursing (preferable located in the surrounding area), working to complete an associate’s degree, a three-year diploma, a bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree in nursing.

CDH School of Nursing Alumni Association Scholarship (Award: $600)
In its thirteenth year, the 2017 Cooley Dickinson School of Nursing Alumni Association Scholarship will once again be awarded to a deserving senior attending either Northampton High School or Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School, who is pursuing a degree in nursing.

Edward Moss Memorial Scholarship (Award: $500)
This intent of this award, established by late U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy and endowed in 1966, is to provide financial assistance to a current Cooley Dickinson employee who is either currently accepted or enrolled full time in an accredited school of nursing, working to complete an associate’s degree, a three-year diploma, a bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree in nursing.
Completed applications and accompanying essays should be received no later than Friday, April 7, 2017 and should be submitted via e-mail to development@cooley-dickinson.org or mailed to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Development Office, P.O. Box 329, Northampton, MA  01061-0329.
