Cooley Dickinson Hospital and Bikes Fight Cancer Announce Endowment to Benefit Patients with Cancer

February 2, 2026

Today, Mass General Brigham announced that patients being treated for cancer at Cooley Dickinson Hospital will now be eligible to receive innovative integrative therapies and supports funded through the new Bikes Fight Cancer Patient Care Fund. The endowment was created as part of a gift to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, totaling $70,000 to ensure comprehensive services, not currently covered by insurance, are available for patients. In the past three years, Bikes Fight Cancer, located in western Massachusetts, has given over $175,000 to the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. This support increases access to evidence-based approaches to help manage symptoms during active treatment, connect to community and financial resources, navigate the healthcare system, and assist with care planning, including supports for the entire family.

“When Bikes Fight Cancer approached the Cooley Dickinson Hospital team in 2023, they were determined to use their annual charity ride to make an impact locally. Many had been personally impacted by cancer and had friends, family members, and loved ones receiving care here,” said Cooley Dickinson Hospital Chief Development Officer, Diane Dukette. “Their ongoing support and the creation of the Bikes Fight Cancer Patient Care Fund signals their deep commitment to our patients and families. As a community hospital, we always need to think about the care we need to provide now, and what future care will look like. We’re grateful for their foresight, which will make a significant difference in our community.”

The Bikes Fight Cancer Patient Care Fund was launched in December 2025.

“With the increased funding from Bikes Fight Cancer, our Cancer Care Fund has been able to help more patients who are experiencing financial hardship while going through cancer treatments with expenses like groceries, utility bills, housing payments, incontinence supplies, and even a recliner for a young patient who couldn’t lie flat in bed,” said Cooley Dickinson Hospital oncology social workers Lauren Soules and Roxanne Lock, who support patients throughout their cancer treatment journey. “Without access to these funds our patients might have to choose between staying current with their bills or continuing their cancer treatments.”

Lauren added, “The funding for our integrative therapies program has allowed more patients than ever to have easy access to massage, reiki, and acupuncture treatments which help relieve distressing side effects like pain, nausea, and even anxiety. Because the integrative therapies are offered free of charge, any patient, regardless of their financial circumstances, can choose to utilize these services.”

Meghan Morin, a founder of Bikes Fight Cancer, shared, “As a fairly new nonprofit, we want to make an impact now and are excited to be able to able do this to ensure BFC’s long-term impact. Setting up an endowment and continuing to support the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute at Cooley Dickinson Hospital is important to us as much as bringing together a community of people who want to create a safety net and ensure services for cancer patients. This cancer fighting community means everything to us.”
