LGBTQ-Friendly Providers

The rainbow wheel symbol that appears next to certain providers’ names on their profile pages is an indicator that identifies them as friendly to patients in the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender and Queer communities. In some cases, the provider may have specialized clinical training through which the particular medical needs of these communities are best understood, diagnosed and treated.

The LGBTQ-friendly identifier symbol indicates that, at a minimum, this provider has completed 4 hours of continuing education on the topic of LGBTQ healthcare, healthcare disparities and/or cultural competency. Providers utilize the training modules through the Center for Affiliated Learning (https://www.hrc.org/hei/hei-training-on-the-cal), or provide proof of an equivalent training. Providers who are identified with the LGBTQ-friendly identifier have also agreed to ongoing education, and have committed to providing non-biased, affirming care for the LGBTQ+ community.

New providers in the Cooley system who are interested in completing the training, or who have already completed equivalent training through another organization and would like to have an identifier displayed on their provider profile page should contact the LGBTQ Ombudsman at LGBTQombudsman@cooleydickinson.org.
