Laurie has clinical experience in various clinical settings including inpatient, subacute, and outpatient care and has had management experience in subacute and inpatient rehabilitation settings.
She has a special interest in treating neurological speech, language and cognitive/linguistic impairments resulting from stroke, concussion/traumatic brain injury, and progressive disease processes such as Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, she is interested in and has experience with providing treatment for swallowing disorders in adults, adult voice disorders from misuse and organic pathology, and vocal cord dysfunction in teens and adults. She is currently expanding her voice skillset to include treating voice issues in the transgender population.

American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) certification; Massachusetts Licensure

My Philosophy

Laurie believes in treating the patient as a whole person and seeks collaboration with other professionals to achieve the best possible outcome for each and every one. Her treatment programs are individualized to maximize the functional impact on their lives. Laurie also believes that providing counseling, humor and sympathy/empathy in the therapy setting helps the patient adjust to and overcome the barriers with which they are faced. Laurie continues to expand her knowledge base through continuing education opportunities, and seeks new areas of expertise based on cultural and community needs.

Biography

Laurie has worked for Cooley Dickinson Hospital since 2003 and is committed to providing quality speech language services in the community in which she was born, raised and currently lives. She lives in her childhood home with her life partner, dog and bunny. She enjoys cooking and baking, and spending time with family
