Biography
Dr. McMillian earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in Storrs and her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. She completed an internship in General Surgery at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, Mass.; residency at Yale New Haven Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut; and a Minimally Invasive & Bariatric Surgical Fellowship at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut. She comes to Cooley Dickinson most recently from Holyoke Medical Center.
In addition to laparoscopic and general surgery, Dr. McMillian specializes in bariatric surgery, including gastric bypass and foregut surgery, which includes conditions of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine.
Diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes in her 20s, Dr. McMillian underwent weight loss surgery more than a decade ago. She has lost more than 110 pounds and has successfully maintained a healthy weight, thanks to lifestyle modifications including changes to her diet and implementing a weekly exercise routine. Dr. McMillian is a vocal advocate of cardiovascular exercise and low-carbohydrate diets; both have been proven to maintain weight loss and improve overall health.
